According to my Insider's Guide to Beijing, for great lunch time deals, head over to Alameda. And to Alameda we went.
It says contemporary cuisine, but in my book, Alameda is an Euro-Brazilian eatery and it has got quite a lot of mentions. Worthy mentions.
Its not that hard to locate it. Its at San Li Tun, directly opposite the Village, nestled somewhere behind the row of pubs. Its been almost a year, and I still remember the place like a local.
Clean Cut Look
For food and ambiance like that, we paid something like S$15? And people ask me why do I miss Beijing.
It was Chengs bday, and I took her out for dinner at Annie's, a highly affordable Italian restaurant near San Li Tun. Its family friendly, with lots of room for the kids to run around. And I know all this because seated next to us was a monstrous family, bawling kids and all.
Jan of this year, saw a great start to the year. It started on a good note, with a visit from my dearest sister. She was on one of her many business trips to Beijing, and it was always first class treatment with her around.
She stayed at the Grand Hyatt, and along i went packing with my little bag.
Actually, what i really mean to share, is the awesome dinner we had at Made in China by the Grand Hyatt. Book your duck before heading down!
So I have tried it all, from quan ju de to da dong, and finally made in china. And though its way more expensive than the former 2, i love best the peking duck at made in china.
The secret i say is in the white skin used to wrap the duck in. Its so soft, it melts in your mouth. Such nice contrast with the crispy duck skin.
Its a definite must try in Beijing.
The day then eventually wraps up in a scene like this. My sister pretending to do some work, and me attempting to do some studying.
It does help having some strawberry cheesecake to wind down to after hours of fruitless attempts to study.
At the basement of the Yintai building, sits the newly opened IFW. It is part of the Hyatt group, and they serve a whole spectrum of international cuisine. My favourite of all is their seafood hor fun, hawker style.
My pet project. A travelogue blog, for family and friends who aren’t there with me. If you can’t come with me, I will bring it to you.
I contemplated having this blog in Chinese seeing I will be away in China for 2 years. I started with 我, and I could continue no more. Haha I think I will have to save this silly idea for later when I am up to it.
My first quest: The motherland, fingers crossed and prayers said, Beijing here I come!
