Datong: Yungang Caves

That is a photo of them looking really unhappy to be dragged out of bed so early in the morning. Hm, or was it because we stood there waiting 45 mins for the damn bus (which never turned up), under really harsh condition of dust, dirt and grime.

We were on our way to Yungang Caves, and it was a nasty route which involved a really bumpy car ride and climbing into ditches.

Yungang Caves is my favourite sight of Datong. The caves are carved entirely into sandstone cliffs, and each houses different variations of Buddha sculptures. The caves date back to several centuries ago, and it is really quite a sight to see them sprawled across a long stretch of the cliff.

Entrance to the caves
We were blessed with such good weather, so all our photos turned out right, clear blue sky and very sharp images :) And of course, we had to squeeze in our trademark shot.

Little Jap mixed boy wasnt part of the attraction, but we couldnt resist not sneaking a peek at this adorable bebe.

After the caves, we packed up and prepared to return back to Beijing. And look at what geeks we have become. We bring our textbooks even on travels. Sigh.
