The Great Wall, The Great Climb

You know, I really ought to give beiyi, aunty diana and uncle thomas a pat on their backs for accomplishing what my friends (and I) couldnt! For persevering through what seemed an insurmountable task - a trek along the commune's great wall, not once, but twice!

With the whites all faded along with the winter cold, climbing should have been made lots easier. But the great wall never fails to present new challenges to discourage all her trekkers. Though the ground was all dried up, the loose rocks released by the snow added to the difficulty of trekking without slipping down butt first. With wobbly knees and not so strong legs, we began on the treacherous journey ahead.

*psssst, photos shown are taken over a course of 2 days

And we climbed

Voooooommm. Her Victory Dance
Beneath that smile, a shaking spirit
At Ease with the Great Wall
Venturing into the unknown. Past the arc, I didnt know what lay ahead. On my previous trip to the commune, we never made it so far.

Someday, i know someday i would complete all of them.

And then we could go no further

*Little nuggets:
- Though the commune's great wall is strictly for hotel guests, at a price of 168RMB, outsiders too can enjoy this exclusive section of the unrestored great wall.
- A much easier way to travel from the city to Badaling is via the train (hassle free and very comfortable). An hour ride for only 17RMB. Train departs from Xi Zhi Men.

Cheers!
