Beneath the Gorge

When we dont have the time for a trip round china, a little suburbia adventure would have to do just fine! A bus ride away from the beijing city centre, hidden away in the yanqing county, stand guards the Long Qing Gorge.

The gorge has often be mentioned in the likes of the famed 3 gorges and the guilin peaks, that still needs some confirmation. Its a convenient getaway for city dwellers itching for a more toned down experience away from the honking streets and rowdy crowd.

Unlike the hugely man-made historical creations within the city center, Long Qing Gorge boasts of staggering views alongside craggy peaks and lush greeneries. But of course nothing falls onto your lap without having to first work hard for it. Expect lots of climbing and trekking as you journey into the heart of God's finest creation.

Comfortable walking shoes and lots of water is a must must!

Long Qing Xia
As I gazed out into the still waters, i cant help but let my mind go into a mode of reflection - Anything from reflecting about my life thus far to capturing moments of reflections. Sigh, c'est la vie.

And because of the huge entrapment of water from the gorge, this later became the site of the largest dam in the northern china.

Into the dragon's lair
Beyond the dam, at the bottom of the gorge there was a whole lot of other life going on. Cable lines running across two peaks, docks for boats bringing tourists through the gorge, a tower erected for the fearless bungee jumpers, kayak for rents, really, something for everyone.

We the fainthearted lazy tourists from singapore decided against bungee jumping and kayaking, and opted for the more relaxing boat ride on the tranquil waters of the gorge. Again, c'est la vie.

Our Ride

Sailing past the nooks and crannies of the gorge allowed me some time as i took a mental refresher course of geography 101. The ocassional draft of cold air (trapped in the shade of the gorge) speeded up the mental process as it cooled down the rising temperature within the mind caused by the killer heatwave from the afternoon sun.

When we touched down at the first platform, we hopped right out and prepared to scale our first mountain. The mind was willing, but alas, the body wasnt. My dad's knee gave him some problem and so i had to continue up all on my own.

Beaten down
The view my dad never got to see:

With an old man on board, the easiest way up any rocky terrain would be via a cable car ride. wheeee off we go!

The lonesome pavilion set precariously over the edge of the cliff

Conquering the world, me and my ugly bagpack
Abandoned bicycle
You know the song from Peter pan, "We are following the leader, the leader, the leader, following the leader..." i am such a slow walker, i always have to follow the lead of my dad.

Following the Blue Brolly
And then the sun sets, and we finally got to rest.
